Authors and publishers are creating products for a digital world from an analog mindset. The book world has been dominated by the printed page for centuries and breaking out of that 6” x 9” format requires viewing the book as a literary and artistic work, not a specific media. Today’s technology provides the ability to present works in ways that publishers and authors are struggling to understand and implement. We need to take control and drive the technology to keep up with our creativity.
Randy will provide an overview of today’s technology and tools, challenge authors to write for media and emerging platforms, and provide specific opportunities for publishers to overcome the perception that eBooks are inferior to the printed book. We will go beyond the headlines and hype and compare enhanced/enriched/amplified eBooks to books as applications.
With his background in the music industry, Randy will draw comparisons between the effect of the digital revolution in the music industry in the past decade and the ongoing changes in the book market. Are the comparisons valid and what can we learn from the mistakes the music labels made?
Join us at the San Rafael Corporate Center, 750 Lindaro Street in San Rafael, on Saturday, September 8.
This meeting is followed by our special BAIPA workshop on Scrivener (separate admission) at 1:30pm in the same location.
